Our philosophy

Our philosophy is simple: rehabilitation.

But what is rehabilitation?

Rehabilitation is the management of a sick or handicapped individual via the use of medical and/or therapeutic means and techniques in order to achieve:

  • Improvement of overall health
  • Improvement of overall quality of everyday life
  • Increase patient s abilities and capabilites
  • Increase and /or achieve autonomy

Each case and each person is different and unique as is his/hers disability and his manpower and thus our goals differ in each case. Our therapeutic programmes are tailored to suit the needs of each individual.

For this to be feasible we evaluate each person separately. (eg. kinesiology, limb and body movements, mobility , posture and stance, general behaviour, communication skills, simple everyday activities, etc)

Each capability is evaluated separately via a number of especially designed a scales, thus all together giving us a general assessment of the individual and his special needs, the strengths and weaknesses.

The evaluation is an on-going process which progresses following the progress of the individual thus, over time,  giving us a more complete picture of him/her which then allows for the planning of a better, more suited to his/her needs, therapeutic program.

For any therapeutic programme to be carried out successfully it must be done so by specialized, trained staff. In TR there is a vast array of specialists and doctors who are involved due to both the nature of the disabilities and the nature of the treatment.

For example there are doctors, physiotherapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, special education teachers, riding instructors, etc. and all these people should also be trained in TR.

If all these aspects aren’t been taken into consideration, then the whole process becomes just a ride on a horse, an activity which may be pleasant but : (a) entails no therapeutic value  and (b) could also turn out to involve danger.

In Greece unfortunately there are people who take advantage of the notion of TR as:

  • TR and Hippotherapy are not known to the public as therapeutic processes.
  • TR and Hippotherapy have not been as yet recognized by the governmental agencies and national health care services as a rehabilitation process as they have been in other countries around the world.
  • Thus, there exists no legal framework which, in it turn, allows anyone to set up a "therapeutic riding programme" without having the specialized knowledge or background needed to carry out and correctly implement the work.

Our philosophy and our focus is rehabilitation, creating the necessary environment in which  a child or an adult can improve, become more mobile, more autonomous, healthier and  happier in his/her everyday life and activities.

Our philosophy is to provide the care and work that will lead to better overall life for the disabled person and for his/her family.
